Full Text: President Buhari’s Democracy Day Message To Nigerians

My compatriots,

It is one year today since our administration came into office. It has been a year of triumph, consolidation, pains and achievements. By age, instinct and experience, my preference is to look forward, to prepare for the challenges that lie ahead and rededicate the administration to the task of fixing Nigeria. But I believe we can also learn from the obstacles we have overcome and the progress we made thus far, to help strengthen the plans that we have in place to put Nigeria back on the path of progress.

Nigeria Man arrested for Frauding Over 90 People in India

A Nigeria named, Igwe Festus Abraham, 43,  has been arrested in India for allegedly duping over 90 people across the country.

According to source: Abraham, a resident of Malviya Nagar in Delhi, was arrested by the cyber-crime cell of Pune police.

The police team nabbed him in Delhi on Thursday, revealing that he had 14 ‘overwhelming’ accounts in his name, in reputed banks: HDFC, Canara, SBI, ICICI, Syndicate and other banks.

Reports have it that the suspect has so far duped more than 90 people across India through lottery scams to the tune of around Rs three crore.

His arrest reportedly came after the cyber-crime cell started investigation into a case registered at Alankar police station in which a woman was cheated for Rs 16 lakh after she received an email saying that she had won a lottery of GBP 500,000.

The victim was reportedly made to make several payments on various pretexts, right from processing fees to chemicals needed for cleaning foreign currency notes.

According to the report, the woman had received an email in September last year from a dubious mail address:rbiforeignexchangeonlinedepartment@hotmail.com saying that she had won a lottery.

Subsequently she was asked to make payment by electronic transfers to various bank accounts.

Also, in December last year, she was told that one Abraham (the suspect) was coming to meet her and she was asked to make arrangements in a hotel for him.

However, on December 6, he allegedly met her in the said hotel and showed a suitcase, which had bundles that “looked like currency notes” but were wrapped in green polythene.

Afterwards, Abraham reportedly told her that the chemical needed to clean the notes had spilled and she would have pay more for its purchase.

He was said to have given his victim two real currency notes, which she got converted into rupees, thus trusting the fraudster.

The woman realised that she had been duped after an mail address given by the fraudsters for final payment of the lottery money bounced despite several attempts.

Luck ran out on the suspect after cops traced him based on phone numbers used by him, account numbers to which the payments were made and his photo.

  • Overhaul of the dysfunctional topmost hierarchy of the Nigerian military which resulted in optimal result and degradation of the Boko Haram elements.

The Israeli government has also indicated interest in the fight against insurgency.
  • Introduction of the motor cycle battalion (This is so that the Nigerian Army can travel to remote areas that were not accessible to cars/trucks)
  • Realigned our partnership with regional allies by embarking on foreign visits which resulted in bilateral and multilateral agreements to tackle insecurity back home.

  • Another major stride is the Trans National Organized Crime (TNOC) where the president got partnership with regional allies in the fight against the proliferation of Small Arms and Light Weapons.
  • As part of the reconfigured military partnership, the United States donated 24 mine-resistant armoured vehicles (MRAP) which had protected the Nigerian troops from the menace of Improvised Explosive Devices. Today we have less causalities.
  • Reached out to the G7 countries and achieved the following: intelligence sharing; technical military training; arms deals/donations
  • Overhauling of NIMASA. A reversed policy of the past administration where national infrastructural assets were given to militia leaders to protect as against established bodies like the Nigerian Navy was stopped.
  • The President Buhari government has drafted the army to partner with other security agencies in ensuring the security of our national infrastructure and this is already yielding the desired results.
  • A major ring of pipeline vandals in Lagos state were captured recently in a joint operation by security forces led by the army.

  • To create a frame work for prosecuting the war against corruption and institutionalize probity, President Buhari set up an Advisory Committee on War Against Corruption.
  • The anti-corruption battle is gaining ground with several high profile cases already in the courts. The administration is being guided by the rule of law in the prosecution of corruption cases.

Petrol price hike, Buhari’s 1st year anniversary gift to Nigerians --- Ayodele Fayose

Despite his electoral promise to reduce petrol pump price from the N87 per litre that he met it, President Muhammadu Buhari increased the price to N145! With this increment, Buhari has further impoverished Nigerians.

Nigerians should be reminded that on April 14, 2015, President Buhari’s ally and former Minister of Petroleum and Energy, Prof. Tam David-West, told Nigerians that Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (who was then President-elect), will reduce the fuel pump price from N87 to N40 per litre.

Buhari did not debunk this statement made by his friend and major supporter. Also, when the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) government of Dr Goodluck Jonathan reduced the petrol pump price from N97 to N87 per litre in January 2015, former Lagos State Governor who is now Minister of Works, Power and Housing, Mr Babatunde Fashola said N10 reduction of the petrol pump price was too low and that Nigerians will get a better deal under Buhari. Fashola tweeted on January 18, 2015; “On PMS price reduction by N10.

Now they listen. Oil the raw material drop over 50%, N10 is just about 10%. Good try but Nija can get a beta deal.”

In rewarding Nigerians for electing him as president, President Buhari opted to increase petrol pump price by N58.50!

The first justification of the increment was removal of subsidy. But Nigerians were later stunned when the Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo said pump price of petrol was increased because Nigeria was broke! In other words, President Buhari increased petrol pump price because the country was broke and it needed to shore up its revenue base.

The N58.50 added to the previous pump price of N86.50 was an Indirect Tax imposed on each litre of petrol purchased by Nigerians. Simply put, the Federal Government is indirectly collecting N58.50 naira tax from suffering Nigerians on each litre of petrol they buy.

Buhari is no doubt acting like the proverbial Agbalowomeri Baale Jontolo (A king that exploit his extremely poor subject to further enrich himself). It is on record that on May 2 this year, the federal government, in the Petroleum Product Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA) Template released in Abuja, told Nigerians that it was subsidizing petrol at N12.62 per litre.

In 2012, when the Dr Jonathan administration removed fuel subsidy and increased petrol price to N141 per litre, crude oil was selling at $111 per barrel. If not wickedness, how can petrol price be increased to N145 per litre when crude oil is now selling at $49 per barrel?

Increasing petrol pump price by N58.50 when the federal government claimed it was subsidising the product at N12.62 per litre is clear wickedness on the part of President Buhari. In the history of Nigeria, increase in price of petrol has never been as high as it was done by Buhari, putting Nigerians in severe hardship as the product affects every sector of the economy.

Too bad, those who opposed removal of fuel subsidy in 2012 and funded the Occupy Nigeria protest are the ones canvassing support for this Buhari’s wicked one year anniversary gift to Nigerians. The labour unions are now completely cowed, dashing completely hope of the common people of Nigeria.

Interestingly, this is not the first election promise by APC/Buhari that have been jettisoned since they got into office. The N5,000 unemployment benefits promised the downtrodden was derisively put down by this President as “largesse” with the president spurning the emotional plea of his own wife to the contrary.

To add salt and insult unto injury, he travelled abroad to make the statement. Despite the mindless and indefensible hike in fuel price, the commodity is still not available. Minister of state for Petroleum says there is no forex to pay for fuel import; yet there is forex to indulge Buhari’s foreign-trip profligacy.

Presidential spin doctors and APC chieftains labouring to hoodwink the people speak glibly of how so-called deregulation will make products available, reduce cost through competition and the interplay of market forces, as well as encourage private sector to build more refineries.

But thank God who loves Nigerians so much, the lies of these people was by divine arrangement, I suppose, revealed by no less a person than the junior minister Ibe Kachikwu himself when he said importation of fuel continues till 2019.

Nigerians should be reminded that the manner of hardship being faced now was also faced during Buhari’s first coming as a military dictator when people had to queue for essential commodities. Now, Nigerians can’t even afford common tomato to prepare soup.

So, Nigerians you have heard the truth: Under Buhari/APC, it is almost certain that our suffering will continue till 2019. Nigerians, remember I warned you before Buhari was elected; I have been warning you since Buhari became president and I am warning now that if nothing is done urgently, the economy of Nigeria will collapse. May the good Lord help us but as they say “heaven helps those who help themselves.”

Mr Ayodele Fayose is the Governor of Ekiti State.

Explain your involvement in Abuja N650m land deal – APC dares Fayose

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State has challenged Governor Ayodele Fayose to explain to Ekiti people how he got N650m to purchase a land allegedly transferred to the retired Chief of Defence Staff, Air Vice Marshal Alex Badeh, who is facing a criminal trial over alleged fraud in property acquisition in Abuja.
The party said Fayose’s response becomes imperative, following the refusal of the governor to declare his assets public, including allegations of fraud raised against him that he has not denied.
A witness in the trial of Badeh on Monday in a Federal High Court, Abuja, testified that Fayose was the owner of a N650m land that variously changed hands, landing finally in the laps of the former Chief of Defence Staff, who is facing criminal trial over alleged fraud in Defence vote.
Reacting in a statement in Ado-EkitI, Publicity Secretary, Taiwo Olatunbosun, said Ekiti people would want to know the details of the governor’s properties and how he acquired them in the face of several allegations of illegal fund transfers, including the $35 million he allegedly got from the Office of the National Security Adviser to prosecute his election in what is now known as Ekitigate.
“Fayose has refused to tell Ekiti people the details of his assets after he was sworn in and of course we have been vindicated in our claim that the governor was involved in the arms purchase fraud through which billions of naira were ferried to Ekiti to rig his election.
“This is also a confirmation of alleged keeping of billions of naira in alleged specially-designed save made in South Africa where proceeds of frauds are kept in Afao-Ekiti.
“In his first term, anti-crime agencies discovered that the governor made anticipatory declaration of assets, including his Iyaganku mansion in Ibadan.
“The site of that property was a thick forest when Fayose became a governor as discovered by the EFCC and DSS in their reports on the governor’s assets declaration form,” Olatunbosun explained.
He added that the governor was among the Nigerian political office holders listed to own propertIes in Dubai, which he never declared, stressing that this confirmed the party’s position that the governor was in a mission to milk the state while the people suffer.
“Fayose has neither rendered account of Ekiti finances to the people nor declared his assets publicly like his predecessor in office. This is why Fayose is opposed to the Single Treasury Account.
“This is why many secret accounts allegedly owned by him are believed to be conduit pipes through which state funds are used for his personal use, particularly several taxes collected from Ekiti people that cannot be traced to any account owned by Ekiti State Government,” he said.
Olatunbosun also accused the governor of “callousness and insincerIty” in the treatment of Ekiti people, particularly workers, who he owed five months salaries while deceiving them that he still paid same salaries (N2.6b) as former Governor Kayode Fayemi after sacking over 27,000 Ekiti people that Fayemi paid one form of salary and allowance or the other when he was governor.
“He denied ever collecting N2b Ecological Fund cash and refunds on Federal roads executed by Fayemi, which he actually collected, while also deceiving Ekiti people on fake monthly allocations to the state.
“He collected N9.6b bail-out at the time he was owing a month salary and after paying one month salary, what he did with the balance, he refused to tell Ekiti workers and in fact abused them when they sought explanation.
“While he denies workers their entitlements, his children have been helping themselves through Afao special save to cruise around in the world’s capitals in exotic cars while he also goes about in markets buying ‘ponmo’, tomatoes and drinking ‘ogogoro’ in local joints to deceive the people and create an impression that he is the friend of the masses,” he added.
While praising Ekiti Labour leaders for seeing the light in the alleged fraud the governor was visiting on them by claiming that he pays same salary (N2.6b) as Fayemi, Olatunbosun urged the EFCC to beam its searchlight on Fayose’s activities and investigate the state’s finances, as the governor had allegedly received funds on behalf of the state that could not be traced to any account.
