Job creation will end pipeline vandalism in Nigeria – Kachikwu

Kachikwu

The Minister of Petroleum Resources, and Group Managing Director of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, has stated that Nigeria would not totally eradicate pipeline vandalism without creating an enabling environment that will empower militants in the Niger Delta.

Kachikwu, who made this disclosure in Uyon, the Akwa Ibom State capital, noted that with the array of pipeline bombings by the Nigerian Delta Avengers, NDA, it would take nothing less than 15 to 20 years to get infrastructure in the oil sector working.

According to him, “Modular refineries are going to be the answer to our problems in the future. We talk about the militants and their agitations; the reality is that until we begin to put things in place that would have these so called ‘militants’ find opportunities in the sector, the destruction is going to continue.

“I have appealed to those who are breaking oil pipelines for now, the Niger Delta Avengers and everybody else, and as you know, we are engaging in negotiations for us to find peace this week and be able to enter a truce that stops all the destruction.”

Kachikwu noted that Akwa Ibom would have an oil depot, as his ministry developed a document basically on relationship with oil producing states.

He said: “So we can find a direct link between what we do and the oil that we produce. Then the restiveness will go. More than just the depot, I think Akwa Ibom deserves more.”

Boko Haram Allegedly Launches Radio Station

According to reports by the Hausa service of the Voice Of America,(VoA), Boko Haram has launched a radio station. The jihadists are said to be using an FM frequency to broadcast their messages in Tolkomari, a northern village in Cameroon, on the border with Nigeria.

The terrorist Sect has followed the path of other major terrorist organizations, in using the media as a means to disseminate its propaganda messages.

Reports further confirmed that some residents in Tolkomari have said that they receive the broadcast messages via the radio station on 96.8 frequency modulation. According to the VoA, the messages broadcasted by the station are propaganda messages that counter media reports that troops from Nigeria, Chad, Cameroon and Niger Republic are winning the war against the Sect.

Niger Delta Avengers call for ceasefire, ready for dialogue

Niger Delta Avengers

The Niger Delta Avengers, NDA, has agreed to dialogue with the Federal Government.
The group has, therefore, suspended its “Operation Red Economy,” which has crippled the oil industry since February.
A statement issued Monday by its spokesman, Brig. Gen Mudoch Agbinibo called on its members to ceasefire pending the outcome of the dialogue with the federal government
The statement reads in full:
”The high command of the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) is using this medium to restate that there are no new items to put on the table for dialogue, we only want a genuine attitude and conducive atmosphere that will make us commit to any proposed dialogue and last peace talk. We want the federal government to commit members states of the multi national Oil Corporations to commit independent mediators to this proposed dialogue; we believed that it is only such environment that will engender genuine dialogue that will be aimed at setting up a framework for achieving the short, medium and long term demands of the Niger delta to de-escalating this conflict and bring about a lasting peace.
”The NDA high command is restating our commitment to attack the interest of oil corporation and international refineries operators that bring in vessels to the Niger delta territory to buy our oil that every successive government have refused to used and reapply the proceeds towards any development in the region since 1958. If they refuse be heed to our advice will result to sinking of two their mother vessel as an examples to others They should not undertake any repair of pipeline, oil and gas facilities that is damaged or attacked by our forces during this period of “Operation Red Economy” until and/or after the dialogue.

”We are using  this medium to warn and condemn the activities of all brands of social media agitators being peddled around by some politicians to promote their criminal ways in affairs of the Niger Delta. This genuine spirit behind our struggle for the Niger Delta cannot be derailed on the basis of connivance by politician, traditional rulers, settled ex- agitators and criminals moving around to fill their pockets.

”The issues of the Niger delta are as old and as new as the days of Pa. Dappa Biriye, Major Jasper Isaac Adaka Boro, to Ken Saro Wiwa and the government of President Musa Yar’ Adua. We are warning this government of President muhammadu Buhari, not to turn the essence of genuine peace talk and dialogue to political jamboree that is prevailing now where all manner of social media agitators and criminals have being sponsored by the job seeking corrupt political class to safe faces before the government of the day.
”Finally, if need be, we may review our earlier stance of not taking lives. We are going to redirect and reactivate all our activities if the government, oil companies and their services firms don’t heed to these modest warnings of not carrying out any repairs works   and suspend the buying of crude oil from our region as we await the right atmosphere that will engender genuine dialogue
“We Want a peace with honour not a peace of our time.”

Biafra: Nnamdi Kanu Writes A Touching Letter From Kuje Prison; says, “I am a prisoner of conscience”

Nnamdi Kanu

Nnamdi Kanu on Thursday, May 12, writes a touching letter to his followers, from Kuje Prison in Abuja. The letter from the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) which was said to have been released through a lawyer representing him read thus:

“I am Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of Indigenous people of Biafra and also the director of radio Biafra. I have restored Biafra without a gunshot, I have destroyed Nigeria with truth and I have conquered Nigeria with Chiukwuokikeabiama. They waited for me to bomb and shoot, but I refused to use metallic bullet and atomic bombs, I only used intellectual bullets and bombs and I have flawlessly won the war. I stood just ordinary radio station and propagated the gospel of Chukwuokikeabiama, the word of God is power and that power have destroyed Nigeria and restored Biafra”.

“I observed freedom of speech and fearlessly preached truth, I am fearless even before death because am prophesy of over 400 years ago. If God is not man then his prophesy shall come to pass and those that stand against God will know Chiukwuokikeabiama is creation. I have lawfully followed stipulated procedures for self-determination and have never been involved in any form of violence or crime, I have always told you Biafrans to be disciplined and law-abiding and you have made me proud”.

“I am grateful that we are whiter than white and whiter than snow. We have no dishonour neither do we have any spot, they have killed us mercilessly and we have never killed back yet they arrested us and tried to break us to betray Biafra. They arrested me for saying the truth, nothing but the truth. They arrested me for demanding Biafra, they arrested me for embracing freedom of speech. They conspired and arrested me for being lawful and demanding attention. They arrested me because peace is prohibited in Nigeria; they arrested me because dialogue is impossible in Nigeria. They arrested me because I refused to take up arms, they arrested me because I defeated them intellectually. When a man is defeated by reason, he sought to discharge his frustration on justice”.

“I am a prisoner of conscience and I am sure the world still have conscience. I am Nnamdi Kanu, I have chosen death, I shall die for Biafra and let my death give my generation a better life, let my death be a guarantee for a better future, let my death be your smile and let my death end your marginalization, subjugation, slavery and tears. I am Nnamdi Kanu the lion that chose death over the abuse of his people. I instead die than renounce Biafra, give me Biafra or kill me is where I stand. I have been arrested for nothing, I am a prisoner of conscience, they are here to break me, to make me renounce Biafra but they don’t know me, they don’t know Biafra is my religion and they don’t know renouncing Biafra is a death sentence, is like committing suicide. In their widest dream shall I commit suicide and I assure them that days of reckoning will come, for Chiukwuokikeabiama shall avenge the death of His children”.

“I have taken an oath with the name of God that I shall never betray or give up Biafra because I knew this day will come. I am physically and psychologically prepared for this period. I took the oath and staked my family, my generations and everything I am, and so giving up Biafra in any condition is impossible, even at gun point, I will only accept my inevitable death than renounce. I have been arrested before but this time is more severe, the harder the price is the closer the Kingdom of God, even Yawehesua prayed that only if this cup will pass over him. They came with every tactics they know to deceive me into signing off Biafra, they promised me freedom, heaven and earth, but I told devil to get behind me for the Kingdom of God worth nothing man can offer. I am more intelligent than them and I will defeat them to a point nothing will be left to fight for, Biafra will be and it has come to stay”.

“I appeared in the court on 19th Feb 2016, in the face of this persecution to coerce me into giving up Biafra, I wore a clean white cloth and tagged Biafran flag under the pocket of my white lace. I tagged the flag there because that is where life is and this is to tell you that Biafra is why i breathe. I will never ever disappoint you and will die for Biafra to come. The Biafran flag badge tagged on my white lace is to remind the world that I am resolute and shall never in this life accept their gold to sale Biafra. The world has no option except giving me Biafra and everything in Nigeria shall be at risk if anything happens to me”.
“Biafrans love me and together we have chosen death or give us Biafra, should anything happen to me then my command remains. Meanwhile, I have followed you great Biafrans and I must confess that I am satisfied, you have made me proud and my message to you all is to stay strong, remain resolute and focused. We must not give up, we should continue pushing strong, we should continue our peaceful protest because it is frustrating Nigerian government and we must keep spreading the message of Biafra and at the end we shall win”.

For Asking Past Civilian Presidents To Account For Loot, Obasanjo Blast Lawyer

Obasanjo
The Legal Adviser, International Secretariat of Amnesty International, London, Mr. Kolawole Olaniyan, has described as inappropriate the recent open criticism of Justice Mohammed Idris of a Federal High Court in Lagos by former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Obasanjo had reportedly described the judge as “ignorant and stupid” for entering a judgment, directing all past civilian Presidents from 1999 to 2015 to account for the loot recovered from the late military dictator, Gen. Sani Abacha.

The judge had made the pronouncement while delivering judgment in a Freedom of Information suit filed by the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, demanding the disclosure or details of the recovery and spending of the Abacha loot.

The judge had issued an order of mandamus directing the Federal Government, through the Attorney General of the Federation, to compel the regime of Obasanjo; that of late former President Umaru  Yar’ Adua; and that of former President Goodluck Jonathan to publish the details of the recovery and spending of the loot.

But Obasanjo, while reacting to the judgment, reportedly dismissed the judge, saying, “They said the money recovered from Abacha, I should account for it. What stupidity! The man who asked for it, the man who gave the judgment or who answered them are all stupid, with due respect.

“I don’t keep account; all Abacha loot was sent to the Central Bank of Nigeria and every bit of it was reported to the Minister of Finance… But again, it shows ignorance, total ignorance, which is lacking and you wonder, are these people educated?”

In a statement on Thursday, Olaniyan, however, said his criticism of the judge was not only an attack on the judiciary and the rule of law but also on the Freedom of Information Act.

The lawyer said it was not surprising that the former President would attack Justice Idris for giving a judgment upholding the provisions of the FoI Act since Obasanjo had “ignored wise counsel to sign the bill into law during his time in government.”

He explained that though judges were not infallible, they did not give judgments based on their “whims or fancies”, but based on the facts presented before them and on laws and established judicial principles or legal precedents.

He described as unfair Obasanjo’s attack on the judge, who could not defend himself against “inappropriate criticism.” He stated that “there’s nothing stupid in Justice Idris insisting on transparency and accountability from leaders, who once held a position of trust and control over the public treasury.”

Olaniyan added, “If judges have to decide cases on the basis of what politicians or someone else wanted the law or the result to be, the very principle of the independence of the judiciary would be forfeited.

“While it’s within Obasanjo’s right to disagree with the judgment or even criticise it, calling Justice Idris “stupid and ignorant” simply for doing his job amounts to inappropriate political criticism as it threatens the judge’s independence and integrity.”

While describing Justice Idris’ judgment as “a great victory for transparency and accountability in the country,” Olaniyan said President Muhammadu Buhari would only do well to instruct the AGF, Abubakar Malami, to ensure that the judgment was enforced to the letter.

“Nigerians do not demand infallibility from their leaders and institutions, but it’s difficult to accept the proposition that a judge granting Nigerians the right to know what their leaders and government are doing is “stupid and ignorant.”
