Budget padding: Fresh trouble for Jibrin as groups drag him to EFCC


A coalition of media and civil society organisations has dragged the immediate past Chairman of the House of Reps appropriation Committee, Hon Abdulmumunu Jibrin, to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, over the controversy surrounding the alleged padding of the 2016 budget.

Driver Ran Away With Company Vehicle 24hrs He Was Employed

Jimoh Taoreed, 30, pictured above has been arrested after he disappeared with a van used to distribute sachet water at Bodija area of Ibadan, Oyo State, barely 24 hours after he was employed. 

According to Oyo State CP, Addressing Jimoh as a thief that he has the intention to steal “When he applied for the job, he gave his name as Saheed Popoola and said that he was an indigene of Eruwa town in Ibarapa area of the state. However after his arrest, it was discovered that his real name was Jimoh Taoreed and he hailed from Irawo Owode in Atisbo Local Government Area”

Taoreed and his assistant, a motor boy, on the day he absconded with his company bus, had gone to distribute bags of sachet water to buyers on June 30th but after carrying out the task, he deceived his assistant by telling him that he wanted to withdraw money from a bank in another location at same Bodija area. After he parked the vehicle, the unsuspecting conductor also alighted to transact business in another bank, but before his return, Taoreed drove the vehicle to an unknown place and was not seen again until his arrest, Oyebade stated further. Jimoh was arrest and the vehicle was recovered at Irawo Owode.

On recovery of the vehicle,Jimoh had removed the inscription that was originally on it and replaced it with Oga Nla  which means Big Boss. 

When interrogated, Jimoh said

 “About three weeks ago, while distributing bags of water to customers, a spirit pushed me to drive the vehicle away. The thought was countered by another spirit which told me not to do it. But at the end, I obeyed the first one that urged me to steal the vehicle. I left the person who was distributing the water bags and drove the van to my village. I went to pay for a bold sticker reading ‘Oga Nla’ (Big boss) and posted it on the van. Unfortunately for me, I was traced to my village and arrested. I was suspected by my family members that I stole the vehicle. I believe they were the ones who informed the police. I admit that my act is of the devil and I promise not to do so again.”


14 Arrested For Stealing Public School Computers


Superintendent of Police (SP) Dolapo Badmos of the Lagos State Command, on Sunday said that the police had arrested 14 suspected criminals who allegedly stole computers at a public school in Shomolu.

Badmos, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the command, who spoke with newsmen added that the suspects were arrested by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS).

She said that items recovered from them include: seven computers accessories, four mini-laptops, a LaserJet scanner, a desktop and a printer, all belonging to the school.

Kogi PrisonBreak: 6 Prisoners Re-Arrested




The General Director of the Prison, Ja’afaru Ahmed, has announced that six out of the 13 prisoners that escaped from the Koton-Karfe prison in Kogi State have been rearrested.

Ahmed noted that the six pre-trial detainees were recaptured with the assistance of other security agencies and local vigilante groups.

He said they had been returned to the prison.
The CGP made this announcement when he visited the Koton-Karfe prison on an on-the-spot assessment of the incident.

A statement on Sunday by the Prison Service spokesman, Francis Enobore quoted the CGP as confirming that 13 inmates escaped from the prison on Saturday, comprising 10 pre-trial detainees and three convicts.


He assured that appropriate measures were being put in place to address congestion in prisons, particularly among awaiting trial prisoners in line with the reform agenda of the Federal Government.

JAMB Withdraws All 2016 Admission Lists Sent to Universities



The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has withdrawn the list of recommended candidates for admission earlier sent to universities and other tertiary institutions, it said in a statement on Sunday.

A statement by JAMB's head of media, Fabian Benjamin, reads:
“This is to ensure that the University Senate perform its statutory responsibility of conducting the selection of candidates and refer it to JAMB for confirmation in line with the admission criteria of merit, catchment and educationally disadvantaged states as directed by the Hon Minister of Education at the policy committee meeting.

“The earlier list was sent to help fast track the process of admission so as to allow other tiers of institutions also conduct their admission.

“Candidates should not panic because this is part of the process of the 2016 admission exercise. JAMB regrets any inconvenience this decision would have caused the tertiary institutions

“The Board regrets any inconvenience it’s proactive step would have caused the tertiary institutions.”

Mr. Olisa Nwakoby who is a Bank manager of FCMB,  on Friday evening shot himself dead in the presence of his priest at Lekki Area of Lagos state.
Olisa, who is the father of a 10 yrs old daughter was said to have taken his own life because of an incriminating huge loan transaction he approved in his bank for a deal.

Source made it known that Olisa was the approving officer for  loans which the beneficiary is no longer servicing and the bank was on the neck of Olisa to get the money back.

Army Relocates Special Forces Training School to Former Boko Haram Strong Base


The gallant Nigerian Army has moved its Special Forces Training School to Buni Yadi, a town once controlled by the heartless Boko Haram sect in Yobe State.


Giving reason why the training school was moved from Niger State to Buni Yadi, the Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai, said:

“We know the importance of this place – Buni Yadi. This is the route they (terrorists) passed through to other parts of the North East and even Plateau in the North Central.” 

Prison Break in Kogi As 13 Escaped


Scene


A prison break which occurred at the Koton Karfe Medium Security Prison in Kogi State resulted to 3 prisoners escape. The incident happened at about 7.10am yesterday. About 13 inmates are said to have broken their cells and escaped through the fence.

Three of the 13 are convicts. Security sources say they are on the trail of the escaped inmates.

18 year Old Girl Sold Her Baby, Blames Poverty



18yrs old girl, Okike Ezinne hailed from Isu Mbaneze in Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State has been arrested by the Enugu State Police Command for allegedly selling her baby identified as Chisom Raphal for N300,000. She was arrested on Tuesday.

According to spokesman of the police in Enugu State, SP Ebere Amaraizu, Ezinne blamed her bosom friend for tricking her into selling off her baby.

Amaraizu disclosed in the statement that the girl had the baby out of wedlock and decided to keep it but was reportedly tricked to sell off the baby by her friend, one Promise Godwin, a 20-year old single mother.


Motor Cycle Rider Gets Frustrated, Hanged Him Self in Ogun State



Motorcycle rider, identified as Monday Onoja, hanged himself on Tuesday in the Ijebu Igbo area of Ogun State.

Monday, 45, who had been incapacitated after an accident, was said to be dependent on his wife.

45 Years Old Man Confessed in Court, Says Hunger Made Him to Steal From FarmLand



Akinbami Ayeyemikan, 45, which works as a bricklayer on Wednesday confessed at Okitipipa Magistrates’ Court in Ondo state that it was hunger that made him to steal farm products.

Three Left Dead, Scores Injured As Yoruba And Hausa Clashes In Lagos



There was a shootout on Tuesday between hoodlums and some officers attached to the Federal Operations Zone A, Ikeja, of the Nigerian Customs Service, NCS, at White Sand community in Ijora Badia area of Lagos State reportedly left three persons dead and scores, including a Customs officer injured.
Trouble started after one Ojo who was said to be on his way home, was allegedly stabbed to death by some Hausa boys.

Female Doctor, Nneoma, Dies In Fatal Accident

She was on her way to Umuahia to take her induction gown as a fresh medical doctor. Her induction is billed for July 28 at ABSU. According to reports, 12 passengers and driver involved in the accident survived except her.
