The statement reads: “We have obtained the video of the event and analysed it, Many officials of Bureau of Communication and Strategy, office of the governor of Osun, were actively involved in managing the event, so also many APC members.

“Who paid for canopies, public address system, DSS escort, police and civil defence men that provided security during the event? We learnt for logistics, security, uniforms for the participants, (10 pensioners and 90 APC members dressed as pensioners) and their stipend, a sum of N100 million was expended.
“What kind of a governor would prefer an hurriedly conceived, image laundry event to paying the dying, pauperized pensioners in Osun? We hope higher authorities in the country are monitoring the situation.
“We also call on IGP and DG DSS to call their men in Osun to order as we have confirmed they have launched manhunt for pensioners participating in the camp,” the statement reads.

Couple To Die Hanging For Murder, Robbery

An Osun State High Court sitting in Ile Ife has sentenced a couple – Fatai Jimoh and Lateefat Jimoh – to death by hanging for armed robbery and the murder of one Mrs. Bukola Taiwo.

The woman, Mrs. Taiwo, was said to have gone on a business trip to Ile Ife on August 12, 2009, and slept over at the Jimohs’ apartment.

It was learnt that the woman, who was a palm oil dealer, used to come from Ibadan, Oyo State, to buy palm oil at Ile Ife. She was said to have bought 70 jerrycans of palm oil and kept them at the apartment of the couple. But the couple reportedly sold 48 jerrycans and promised to pay her back when she discovered the theft.

Sadly, the couple attacked the woman, who later died in a hospital.

The convicts were arraigned on June 2, 2014, on three counts of murder, conspiracy to murder and armed robbery respectively, which violated Section 316 (1), with punishment under Section 319, Cap 34, Law of Osun State and Section 1 (1) 2 (a) of the Robbery and Fire Arms (Special Provision) Act, Law of the Federation of Nigeria, 2000.

The couple had pleaded not guilty to the charges against them.

The prosecutor, during the trial, had called four witnesses and tendered 10 exhibits.

The prosecutor had told the court that Fatai strangulated the victim, while his wife smashed Taiwo’s head with a hammer after which the couple stole the victim’s purse and removed the sum of N48,780.

New Born Baby Found Near Osun River

The residents of the Ibu Amon area of Osogbo at the Osun State capital were left in confusion on Friday, with the discovery of a dead newborn baby which was dumped close to the popular Osun River.

According to Punch Metro, Fatai Olayiwola, who is one of the leaders in the community, said he was shocked like other members of the community to find the dead baby where it was dumped, adding that the residents alerted the Nigeria Security and  Civil Defence  Corps to their discovery and officials of the agency went to the scene to remove it.

He said, “I was informed by some residents that a newborn baby was dumped close to the river. They said the baby was dead. I went there and saw the dead baby.

“We informed the NSCDC and the agency sent some of its officials to the scene. The baby was dead and swollen before that time. It had started decomposing. I think the person who dumped the baby did it the previous night.”

Also speaking to a correspondent, another resident, David Adedeji, said the mother of the baby might have dumped it there because of the harsh economic condition or because he was unwanted.

The Public Relations Officer of the NSCDC, Mr. Afolabi Babawale, decried the fate that befell the baby.

The NSCDC PRO said, “When some residents raised the alarm that a day old baby was dumped by the riverside, our men on patrol duty went straight to the place.

“I have called the authorities at the local government area, as well as some environmental officials who will do the needful.

“But our advice is that this kind of thing should stop. There are ways of preventing unwanted pregnancies if those, who are not ready, must have sex. This is a criminal act and it is a sin before God.”

The Governing Council of the Osun State University, Osogbo, has terminated the appointment of Dr. Olabode Ojoniyi of the Department of Languages and Linguistics, Ikire Campus, caught on video having an amorous relationship with one of his students, Mercy Ikwue.
It was gathered on Sunday that the Governing Council headed by Mallam Yusuf Ali SAN, sacked the lecturer, who appeared nude on a bed  in a hotel room and caressing Miss Ikwue.
A member of the Governing Council confirmed the sacking of Ojoniyi to our correspondent in Osogbo on Sunday.
He said, “The Council met last week and the report of the panel that investigated Ojoniyi’s amorous affair with the female student was deliberated upon. His appointment was terminated because that is the penalty stated in the Code of Conduct of Staff of Osun State University.”
Apart from the member of the Governing Council, three other lecturers including two professors confirmed that Ojoniyi had been sacked.
Part II articles 15 and 23  of the Code of Conduct for Staff and Students of UNIOSUN read, “ An academic staff shall not conduct himself/ herself in relation to students in such a manner that derogates from his status as a lecturer, examiner and adviser. Specifically, sexual harassment of students by (members of) staff is totally forbidden. Any (member of) staff found guilty of sexual harassment shall be dismissed from the service of the university and may be handed over to relevant state authority for prosecution.
“An academic (member of) staff shall not demand from students any gratification whether in cash or in kind including sexual gratification in the discharge of his/her lawful duties. Breach of this code shall warrant appropriate sanction ranging from warning to termination of appointment depending on the gravity of the offence.”
Ojoniyi’s sex act was captured in a video which is believed to have been surreptitiously recorded by the female student.
The female student was said to have been pressurised by Ojoniyi for sex and she eventually agreed and followed him to their agreed place with a laptop computer from which she pretended to be watching a movie, Things Fall Apart. Unknown to him, Miss Ikwue was actually recording their sexual activities.
Ojoniyi had accused one of the lecturers of the university, who was recently dismissed for an alleged misconduct as the person behind the drama. According to him, the lady was contracted to blackmail him. But Ojoniyi did not deny being the one in the video.
The video clip went viral afterwards and Ojoniyi, when contacted by PUNCH did not deny that he was the one in the video and did not say his image was manipulated. He only blamed his detractors for the incident.
The Acting Registrar of UNIOSUN, Bayo Shittu, who doubles as the secretary of the council, did not pick repeated calls put across to his telephone line.
He had yet to reply to the text sent to him to officially confirm the sacking as of the time of filing this report.
A professor at the university recently resigned his appointment over the alleged rape of a female student in his office.
Some lecturers and students of the university told disclosed that the professor knew that he would be sacked if the case was investigated and he hurriedly resigned to prevent the embarrassment which would follow.

Fayose, Aregbesola Disagree On The Sales Of National Assets

Ekiti state governor, Ayodele Fayose, and Mr. Rauf Aregbesola of osun state have disagreed over the need to sell national assets to finance the 2016 budget.

While Aregbesola urged the Federal Government to sell ‘idle’ national assets and spare the functional ones, Fayose opposed the idea, arguing that selling them would amount to auctioning Nigeria.

The duo spoke in Ado Ekiti during an interactive forum which was part of the activities lined up to mark the 20th anniversary of the creation of Ekiti State.

They, however, canvassed regional integration and cooperation as well as the revival of agriculture as some of the steps to revive national economy.

Aregbesola, who delivered a lecture entitled, “The imperative of unity,” said the biting economic problem was such that in the whole of the South-West region, only Lagos State could stand on its own.

He stressed the need to intensify efforts to revive agriculture, end oil pipeline vandalism and promote regional integration for meaningful development.

He said, “We should revive agriculture, especially food production. Agriculture gives us raw materials for industries and aids in no small measure in economic development. If we can improve on our productivity in food production through agriculture, we will eliminate hunger in our land.

“I want to urge Nigerians to end the ongoing vandalism of oil pipelines as the militants’ activities have been reducing the nation’s daily oil productivity level to between 700,000 and one million per barrel.

“The current vandalism of oil pipeline by the Niger Delta militants is robbing the nation of oil production of 700,000 to one million per barrel on a daily basis. This amounts to a huge loss of oil revenue to the country and has further led to the current recession in the country. An urgent concerted effort is therefore needed to stop the vandalism so that the country could get out of the recession.”

Aregbesola added, “It is high time the Yoruba nation and indeed the South-West united in terms of integrating our development strategies in education, commerce, economy, agriculture and tourism among others. There is no reason we should not unite for the best.

“The truth is that no Yoruba state, with the exception of Lagos State, can survive alone without collaborating with sister states. Therefore, we have to come together, pull together our abundant human and material resources.”

The governor described Ekiti people as men of integrity and courage and urged them to continue to support their governor for the development of the country.

“I congratulate all Ekiti people on the 20th anniversary of the creation of your state, my state, our state. You fought the Ekiti Parapo War which is an indication of unity of purpose. There is strength in unity.”

But Fayose, in his remarks, said selling the national assets was like selling Nigeria at a give-away price.

“Selling our national assets simply amounts to auctioning Nigeria. If we sell the assets because the country is in recession, what would be left of Nigeria?

“What would we call our own? Selling of assets is like moving the country backward. If we sell the assets to finance this year’s budget what would we sell next year? The Federal Government should look beyond its party and assemble economists and financial experts that would assist the President in his drive to bring the nation out of the present economic quagmire.”

Urging the Federal Government to uphold the principles of justice and equity, which he said were germane to building democracy, the governor said, “Justice is very important and without it, democracy is already endangered. If people are now beginning to contest against the Independent National Electoral Commission and security agencies for manipulation of elections, then democracy is endangered. It is political parties that are supposed to contest elections and not people contesting against inadequacies of the electoral umpire.”
