Tukur Buratai Flag Off Military Operation In Southern Kaduna, Set To Combat Terrorism

Buratai
Buratai
The Nigeria chief of Army State, Lt. General Tukur Buratai has pledged to end the attacks facing Kaduna communities as he flagged off an Operation tagged ‘Operation Harbin Kunama II’ against bandits terrorizing the troubled zone.

Besides, the Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai and the Army Chief were in Kafanchan to launch the military operation, specifically meant to pursued the herdsmen to the forest and bushes in Southern Kaduna, with the aim of dislodging them from their hideouts.

Speaking at the occasion, Buratai said yesterday, “it is all about keeping our society safe as part of internal security responsibility by the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria”, pointing out that “We are much aware of what is happening in Southern Kaduna; the various communal clashes, the farmers/herders clash and we are training our officers to be more professional to understand the basis of our field operations”.

According to him, the military operation that was flagged off in Southern Kaduna “will last for one month”, adding that “the troops will go into the nooks and crannies of this area, the hills and valleys to flush out all the criminals, bandits and cattle rustlers including kidnappers”.

He said: “you can see from this outing, traditional rulers have come out in full to support us. Our civil military relations have been extremely well. We held town hall meetings where the head of civil military affairs as well as the GOC were there. It was an eye opener. Some of the challenges that are facing the individual community were properly brought out”.

Meanwhile, Governor El-Rufai in his speech urged all the people in Southern Kaduna to embrace peace in order ensure that violence ends, noting that “violence can only end when people decide that violence does not work”.

According to him, “Somalia has been at war for decades but war is not yet over. People must understand that why the chief of Army Staff and his officers are ready to flush out the bandits we must be ready to tolerate one another. Our job as a state government is to provide the necessary support to the security agencies to preserve peace and to prosecute all those involved in any crime. My appeal as always is that let us recognize our common

US President, Donald Trump To Sell Deadly Fighter Jet To Nigeria To End Boko Haram

The United States has agreed to sell high-tech aircraft to Nigeria to tackle Boko Haram insurgency in the North-East. US officials told AP that the Congress was expected to receive formal notification within weeks, setting in motion the deal with Nigeria.

They added that the arrangement would call for Nigeria purchasing up to 12 Embraer A-29 Super Tucano aircraft with sophisticated targeting gear.

The purchase will gulp about $600m, said the officials. They were, however, unauthorised to discuss the terms of the sale publicly and preferred anonymity on the diplomatic conversations.

The Defence Headquarters, Abuja, at a briefing last week, confirmed that the US was one of the countries that had agreed to help Nigeria in the fight against Boko Haram.

The Director, Defence Information, Maj-Gen. John Enenche, said, “It is worthy of note that some countries such as Britain, USA and France among others provided one form of assistance to the military in our effort so far in the North-East. It is hoped that the collaboration would continue to ensure that this evil of terrorism is eliminated from Nigeria and equally degraded globally.”

Our correspondent learnt that although President Donald Trump had made clear his intention to approve the sale of the aircraft to Nigeria, the National Security Council would work on the issue. Military sales to other countries are also expected to be approved, but are caught up in an ongoing White House review.

The AP notes that Nigeria has been trying to buy the aircraft since 2015.

Trump in February called President Muhammadu Buhari on the telephone and assured him of his country’s readiness to cut a new deal in helping Nigeria to combat terrorism.

A staff of the University, Mr Abubakar Mohammed, who was privy to details of the incident said;

The bombers blew themselves up as soon as they sighted the dogs barking at them as they could no longer help the situation. They came in through the back door and were prepared to denote the bombs before they were sighted by the dogs which prevented them from unleashing another mayhem on the university community.

This is the second time the institution is witnessing a suicide bombing attack. It can be recalled that in January, a suicide bomber sneaked into the university campus and attacked a mosque where Muslims were observing the early morning prayer, killing a professor and injuring several others.

Again! Bomb Exposion Hits Maiduguri

There has been at least one explosion in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital by suspected Boko Haram suicide bomber, according to Daily Sun

The attack reportedly occurred at the Muna garage in Maiduguri which was just recently attacked by the insurgents.

According to a Facebook user Medan Oukoh, who also posted a video of what was left of the bomber, the attack occurred at around 2.15am, on Wednesday.

The attack comes just a day after the Abubakar Shekau-led faction of the Islamist insurgent group released a video showing the gruesome and cold-blooded murder of three men it claimed were government spies that infiltrated it.

In the 7-minute video, the insurgents also displayed large cache of high-grade military weapons including what appeared to be anti-aircraft missiles and boasted that it remains firmly in a place in the country that the Nigerian Army could not recapture.

But the Nigerian Army has been securing victories over the group as it continued clearance of the terrorist group’s former hideouts in different places in Borno State.

Just on Tuesday, March 14, the Army announced the take over of a logistics base in Shirawa in Kala Balge Local Government Area of the state. The Army rescued 455 hostages and overpowered insurgent fighters in the process.

Why I Refused To Detonate My Explosive – Female Bomber

A teenager, Amina Yusuf, paraded by the military on Wednesday in Maiduguri said she failed to detonate her explosive because she did not subscribe to Boko Haram ideology.

The 17-year-old told newsmen in Maiduguri that she was abducted five years ago, alongside her parents, in Madagali in Adamawa, after a terror attack on the village.

“I was abducted alongside my parents in Madagali in Adamawa after the terrorists attacked our village. We were taken to a camp in the bush where we were forcefully indoctrinated by the group,” she said.

The suspected suicide bomber alleged that her parents were killed after they had refused to be indoctrinated.

“My parents were executed because they did not join the group.

“I was married off to a Boko Haram militant with whom I lived in the camp,” she said.

“One day I was asked to wear the bombs. I was brought to Maiduguri with an instruction that I detonate the bomb where there is a large crowd of people,” the teenager added.

She said that she declined to detonate the explosive because she did not want to die.

“They said I should press the button but I refused and allowed security men to capture me alive.
“My four siblings are still with the terrorists in the camp,” Yusuf said.

Maj.- Gen. Lucky Irabor the Theatre Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole had presented her along with two unindentified girls to newsmen during a weekly briefing in Maiduguri.

Army spokesman, Brig.-Gen. Sani Usman, said in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja that the cash reward for information followed the spate of suicide bombings in the North East, particularly in Maiduguri and Madagali which was “assuming a disturbing proportion”.

“Consequently, the Nigerian Army is offering a reward of the sum of N500,000 for any information that leads to the arrest of a suicide bomber, the guide to the suicide bomber, or discovery of the transit house or factory of the suicide bombers.

“The offer by the Nigerian Army is to further encourage law abiding citizens to actively join the war against terrorists and our collective security,” he said.

Usman said anyone with information could reach the following officers: “Theatre Commander,

No Terrorist Group Shouts ‘Jesus, Jesus’ before Attacks – CAN Blast Wole Soyinka

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has blasted Wole Soyinka for opining that religion will destroy Nigeria if not tamed.
Soyinka was said to have made the statement at a book presentation in Abuja last Thursday.
“I would like to transfer that cry (by President Muhammadu Buhari on corruption) from the moral zone to the terrain of religion. If we do not tame religion in this nation, religion will kill us.”
CAN’s National Director, Legal and Public Affairs, Kwamkur Samuel, in response insisted that religion was not responsible for Nigeria’s problems.
“With due respect to Prof. Soyinka, it is not true that religion is the bane of Nigeria’s stability. No genuine religion promotes killings and destruction of lives and property.
“It is unfair for the Nobel laureate to project religion as a problem when it is the faithful believers that are praying and sacrificing to keep the nation moving,” Samuel said.
“Christianity preaches peace in all its ramifications. I challenge the professor to identify one attack on any community in Nigeria that was reported to have been carried out by Christians.
“Let him show any terrorist group by whatever name that shouts the name of Jesus before attacks or claim they are fighting for Jesus.
“We are sad that the so-called religious killing is persisting because our prominent leaders are not ready to call a spade by its real name”, he added.
He also asked Soyinka to question security operatives, on why some suspects had not been prosecuted.
“Why would a woman will be murdered in cold blood by known neighbours, yet they will be set free without prosecution like it happened in Kano? Nigeria will be far from getting to any solution,” Samuel added.
