Robbers Dressed In Police Uniform Attack Petrol Station In Zuba, Abuja
In Nigeria, it seems that petrol stations are taking the place of bank vaults, or that thieves are getting hungrier due to the economy and are expanding their scope of business.
According to reports, a gang of suspected robbers wearing police vests allegedly attacked a petrol station on Tuesday at Zuba, near Abuja.
A witness said the incident happened at about 6:45pm when the robbers, numbering over 10, drove into the filling station in an unmarked Toyota Hilux van.
He said they rough-handled the security man and locked him up in one of the offices in the filling station before they proceeded to ransack the place.
“You know, when they came, people around thought they were a taskforce team because all of them wore police vests, not until they grabbed the security man by his trousers and bundled him into one of the offices and started operation did the people realise that it was a robbery attack,” he said.
He said some members of the gang stationed themselves outside with their guns, while the others operated for almost three hours before they left.
The robbers also removed a brand new (Mikano) generator that powered the filling station and went away with it.
Reports say the same gang had been terrorising motorists along the Zuba-Tunga Maje axis, on the express way, especially on Sundays.
When contacted, the police said no one reported the incident.
