The Central Bank of
Nigeria, CBN, on Thursday directed banks and authorized forex dealers to sell
the Pilgrims Travelling Allowance, PTA, to intending pilgrims at a
concessionary exchange rate of N197 to $1. Soon after the directive was issued,
Nigerians started complaining.
What is
the crux of the matter? People are wondering why Business men and woman can't
get Dollar at a cheaper rate to do their business, which enable them to create
jobs for jobless Nigerians. But in the case of religion, which should be a
personal obligation, CBN was quick to intervene.
Even the chairman
of National Human Rights Commission, Ben Angwe, is not happy.
