Federal Government Had Spent Over $40bn On Niger Delta in 12 Years

Ibe Kachikwu

Former NNPC Director, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, yesterday disclosed that the Federal Government had committed over $40 billion on the crisis-ridden Niger Delta region in the last 12 years

Kachikwu, who made this known in Warri, Delta State when a former Information Minister, Chief Edwin Clark, hosted him pleaded with the people of the Niger Delta to embrace peace to ensure rapid development in the area. He said: “We must work towards the final solution in achieving peace by rejecting violence at all times.”

The minister while adding that he was 100 per cent committed to the struggle for the development of the region, revealed that President Muhammadu Buhari was very interested in the development of the region.

Kachikwu disclosed that he would set up a structure to ensure the actualisation of peace in the area but warned that he would not take the declaration of ceasefire for granted. Earlier, Clark had commended the efforts of President Buhari and the minister for working towards the development of the region.
