Katsina state gov, Alh Abdulkadir Nasir |
The Katsina state government has just bought 720 goats worth of N104m
to distribute for the women in the state under its Women Empowerment Scheme.
The report was disclosed on Tuesday, August 2, by Alhaji Abdulkadir
Nasir, the special adviser to the governor on economic empowerment, at the
launching of the programme in Katsina.
According to him, each of 240 women selected across the 34 local
governments would be given two female goats and one male goat.
He said “the animals were purchased in Niger Republic and were highly
reproductive and good for breeding”
“The goats are also insured for one year and veterinary officers will
be going round in all the local governments to provide medication to the
animals if the need arises,” the special adviser said.
Nasir urged the beneficiaries not to sell the animals and to ensure
they take proper care of the animal.
He noted that the government disbursed N30million to 1,890 physically
challenged people across the state to establish small-scale businesses and also
empowered one physically challenged from each local government area with a
shop, generator, charging board, recorder and N20,000 worth of recharge cards
to engage in business.
The sum of N340million was also disbursed to various organised trade
associations in the state, all in efforts to boost small and medium scale
enterprises in the state.
Speaking at the distribution ceremony, Katsina state Governor, Aminu Masari said the N104million was part of
the N2billion loan obtained from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) by the state
government for the development of Small Scale and Medium Entrepreneurship.
He said the loan would attract nine per cent interest rate which the
administration had obliged to bear.
