Nigerians, particularly MMM supporters and
subscribers have blasted an Islamic cleric, Murtadha Muhammad Gusauin, who said
participating in the ponzi scheme was against the tenet of Islam.
The Imam had delivered a lecture at the
central mosque in Okene, Kogi State which was shared on Facebook and other
social media platforms.
He said the idea of providing help to people on
the basis of return was not supported by Islam as reward for alms giving would
be in the hereafter.
Gusauin had said, “The example of those who
spend their wealth in the Way of Allah is like that of a grain of corn that
sprouts seven ears, and in every ear there are a hundred grains. Thus Allah
multiplies the action of whomsoever He wills.
“Allah is Munificent, All-Knowing. Those who
spend their wealth in the Way of Allah and do not follow up their spending by
stressing their benevolence and causing hurt, will find their reward secure
with their Lord. They have no cause for fear and grief.” (Al Baqarah,
:261-262).
“Islam also teaches us to give something to
other without wishing for greater return. Allah reminded us:
“Do not give something to seek for a better
return.” (Tafsir al Qurtubi, 19/67).
“It all shows that the MMM transaction is not
in line with some principles of Islam, thus it shouldn’t be preserved,” he
stated.
His lecture, however, generated reaction from
Nigerians as some persons noted that the scheme was a form of business and
others giving in to the opinion of the religious cleric.
Read some of the reactions on Facebook below:
Haruna Idris: “It’s a pity that so many
people in Nigeria don’t knw where to eat from instead, they choose to eat from
every trains of hell. U re consuming interest from unknown Source”
Michael Korede Olorunyomi: “Nigerians tend to
play religious cards at every opportunity. Is corruption biblical/islamic?’cos
most of this so called clergy men/religious Nigerians have never come out in
the open to condemn corruption in strong terms.
“1.most of this pastors/imams are the ones
praying for the politicians.
“2.some pay their tithes from the proceeds of
corruption.3.some of them you see them taking selfies with these politicians.
“So the clergy men, should focus more on the
generation that led Nigeria to where it is today.”
Sunnie Chimaroke wrote: “MMM is not Islamic.
It is when IBB, Abacha, Abdusallami, Kwankwaso, Buhari, and all the rest of
them, pack Nigeria’s money to their personal accounts in Europe and
America…that is really Islamic?
“When unqualified alamajiris occupy sensitive
positions due to quota system …that is Islamic? Or is it #HellRufai pays huge
money to his trained killers to be killing people …that is Islamic? Sunni
Muslims are synonymous with lies and hypocrisy. …#Islamic my foot!”
Daniel John Aduojo Apeh said, ” “This is not
giving out money but investing your money to your %. Business is quit different
from religion.”
Onoja Patrick “Please, all religions should
come all out and condemn corruption in the spirit.”
