On the 20th of April,
1996, something happened in Nigeria that sent shock waves all over the country.
It had never happened before in history and many did not believe it the first
time they heard the story.
The Sultan of Sokoto,
head of Nigeria’s only caliphate and the sole spiritual leader of the country’s
tens of millions of Muslims was unceremoniously removed from the throne of his
forefathers.
After spending eight
years as the Sultan, Ibrahim Dasuki was deposed on the orders of the country’s
maximum military ruler, a ruthless despot named Saninegeria Abacha. And that
was the beginning of a real nightmare for the Fulani king.
